Description: Through the Looking Glass Early Head Start Program serves children 0-3 and their caregivers as well as pregnant women. Our program specializes in children and families with developmental or disability issues, but is inclusive of parents and children with and without disabilities. During weekly visits, home visitors provide: - Play time that is fun for families and supports children's learning and growth - Activities and support that helps build strong parent-child relationships - Information that connects families to other resources as needed - Developmental play group at the Ed Roberts Campus for children and families 2x per month The home visitors have extensive training and experience working with children and parents with many different types of disabilities. In addition to their expertise in early childhood development, home visitors are trained mental health therapists who work with families using a strength-based approach.

Description: A parent-child developmental playgroup offered by Children's Hospital & Research Center, Oakland that provides playtime, parent support and education, assessments and screening for children 0-5 years old once a week. One to two home visits are included. Program targets children birth to five with an emphasis on children 18 months to 3 1/2 with emerging developmental delays or concerns. Schedule includes circle time, snack, play-exploration, special activities, and a weekly parent support group which promotes community building, linkage to community resources and guest speakers. Program enrolls families with children with developmental concerns. Playgroup is in Spanish and runs for 6 month sessions, staffed with Infant Development Specialists, Infant Development Assistants, Mental Health Specialists and Family Partners.

Description: The Parent Support Hotline (800-829-3777; 510-893-5444) offers assistance to families and caregivers of children 0-18 years of age, and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The hotline is staffed by professional and volunteer counselors, who support parents and caregivers around a variety of parenting issues. Counselors are available to talk with parents about their stress and worries parenting infants, children, and teenagers as well as other family stresses or concerns. The hotline is also there for families in crisis, experiencing high stress, or needing assistance finding community resources or signing up for services offered through Family Paths, such as psychotherapy for children and caregivers, parent education classes, group for women, yoga and group for children. Hotline counselors are trained to supportively listen to callers’ needs, and help callers explore options for their situation. The hotline serves Alameda County parents and caregivers from all backgrounds, incomes, and family structures with respect, integrity, compassion, and hope.
