Program AKA (also known as): Alameda County Public Health FHS Healthy Start Initiative
Program Description: The Black Infant Health Program (BIH) is designed to empower and support pregnant and parenting African-American women. As part of their efforts to reduce infant mortality and preterm labor in the African American community, BIH provides social support and empowerment in a group setting through intensive case management. BIH participants attend weekly group sessions (10 prenatal and 10 postpartum) designed to help them access their own strengths and set health promoting goals for themselves and their babies.
