Program Description: A Better Way’s Parent Leadership are curriculum driven support and education groups for parents whom currently or were previously involved with Alameda County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Groups are offered in English and Spanish in efforts to support parent’s needs. Parent Advocates facilitate the English and Spanish groups; all are parents who have successfully navigated the child welfare system with their own families. Parent Leadership provides a safe, nonjudgmental place where mothers and fathers. The Parent Leadership also provide support to develop practical life and parenting skills, learn the importance of effective communication and healthy relationships and share important resources, while navigating through and learning successful strategies to navigate the child welfare system. Parents are supported and encouraged to share the knowledge and wisdom that they have gained in Parent Leadership with their families, friends and communities to avoid becoming involved in the child welfare system. Stipends are provided for participants attending the groups.

General Comments: Participants receive a stipend for attending and completing the curriculum. Participants also receive a certificate of completion. Spanish Groups are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 5:00p-7:00p. English Groups are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 3:00p-5:00p. Both Groups are held in-person and /or virtually.
