Agency Name: A Better Way Inc.

Description: A Better Way’s Birth to Five Program provides support and services to children, ages 0-5, and their families. We know that the first 3-5 years of life is a sensitive period for development. When infants and young children encounter hardship or other difficulties during this time, it places them at a higher risk for experiencing emotional, behavioral, or developmental problems, both now and in the future. To support every child’s chance for healthy development and emotional wellbeing, our program offers a variety of services, including developmental screening, assessment, child and family therapy, and parent coaching. We work with biological, foster, and adoptive parents, and any other significant caregivers in a child’s life. Most importantly, families can receive services where they need it most—at home, daycare or preschool, in the community, or our clinic. Our treatment teams are multidisciplinary and include a mental health clinicians, family partners, and when appropriate, mental health rehabilitation services with behavior intervention specialists. Services are relationship and strength-based, family driven, culturally and linguistically sensitive, and incorporate evidence-based and evidence informed interventions.

Early Childhood & Parenting Teens Mental Health Program

Last Updated: August/20/2024

Agency Name: La Familia Counseling Service

Description: Our Early Childhood and Parenting Teens Mental Health program has Bicultural and Bilingual Spanish speaking Mental Health Clinicians and our Family Partner trained in working specifically with infant and child issues, to support parents with behavioral and relational family issues. We accept child clients from infants up to 7 1/2 years old, as our services for children stop at 8-years old. We also work with pregnant and/or parenting teens under age 21-years-old. We use play therapy since children learn through play with parent’s involvement to support the child’s sense of security. All children have their own developmental progression with a range in age for meeting their milestones. Children show differences in their development of communication, language, motor skills, problem solving, and social emotional patterns. Your child’s individual differences are the unique qualities of your child. Mental health in children is about how they feel, think and behave, and how well they manage transitions, routines, changes, and social engagement with their family and peers. We can provide supportive interventions to help you with your concerns regarding your infant or young child's development or behavior. For pregnant or parenting teens up to age 21, we offer support to learn parenting skills and positive bonding. Additionally, teenage pregnancy can bring challenges to the whole family. While love in the family can be abundant, the actual reality of caring for infants and young children is a major commitment. Interruption of school or other life goals can carry with it stressors for the young parents in learning how to manage their new responsibilities while also continuing with their life ambitions. We can help with the stress and adjustment to these changes and feelings such as anxiety, depression, anger, and low self-esteem. To be eligible for services the child or teen parent must have full scope MediCal in Alameda County. Please call us at (510) 300-3574 to discuss eligibility and interest in services.
